クリフォード・ブラウン（Clifford Brown）
1930/10/30デラウェア州ウィルミントンの生まれ。高度な音楽教育を受け、50年代初めにデビュー。53年、タッド・ダメロン、ライオネル・ハンプトン楽団を経て54年、マックス・ローチとコンボを結成。表情豊かなストレート・トランペット、理に叶ったメロディー運び、憂愁なロマンティスト、多くの期待を我々に抱かせながら不慮の事故でこの世を去る。リッチー・パウエル夫妻の車に同乗、フィラデルフィアからシカゴに向かう途中、ペンシルベニア・ターンパイクでナンシー・パウエルが操縦を誤り、堤防に激突、全員が死亡。クリフォードは25歳、マックス・ローチとの５重奏団を作っており、リッチー・パウエルはそのピアニストであった。わずか３年余りの活動であったが多くの作品と名作を世に残した。1956/6/26死去。
